HISTORY
Shining Star Daycare opened its doors in June, 1991. At that time the daycare was located in Port Moody and was affiliated with Port Moody Pentecostal Tabernacle. When it began Shining Star was the only government licensed Out of School Care facility in Port Moody. They began by offering their services to the families of Moody Elementary School.
In 1995, Port Moody Pentecostal Tabernacle sold its building in Port Moody and moved, to Coquitlam, therefore changing its name to Coquitlam Christian Centre. The Daycare moved along with the church to where it sits now. Shining Star continued to offer care before and after school for the children attending two elementary schools in the area. Later Shining Star expanded to start a group daycare, which opened its doors in October, 1995.
In September 2005, once again, the daycare expanded and this time opened an infant and toddler program. Now Shining Star is able to care for over 100 children between the ages of one and twelve.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe that:
CHILDREN are a special gift from God, and as such we are committed to offering the highest possible standard of care for them and their families. Children are unique individuals and should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, beliefs, or special needs. All children need to be loved, nurtured and guided to grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, and socially in the best way possible. At Shining Star all children are entitled to a safe and nurturing environment with a schedule of routines that best meet the individual needs of each child in our care.
FAMILY is the authority on their child and therefore we encourage families to be involved in their child’s program. We respect each family’s differences and strive to work together in order to uphold values that will build a strong community.
OUR STAFF are entitled to a work environment, which recognizes and respects their training, skills and commitment to child care, as they put the child’s needs before their own.
SHINING STAR enhances the lives of children, their families and the community by providing a caring, supportive and vital community service.
